About this Book
Kanda 10 or Dasham Kanda of the Atharvaveda Saṃhitā is one of the most intellectually profound and textually significant sections of the scripture, widely celebrated for its balance of high speculative philosophy, deep mysticism, and protective counter-charms.
Structurally belonging to the middle segment of the Śaunakiya recension, this book moves away from simple domestic blessings to tackle cosmic creation, absolute reality, and complex spiritual metaphors across 10 unusually long Sūktas containing over 350 Mantras. Thematically, it houses the legendary Skambha Sūktas (Hymns 7 and 8), which pre-date the Upanishads by conceptualizing the entire universe, its gods, and the moral order as branches anchored to an infinite, all-sustaining Cosmic Pillar representing the Supreme Brahman.
Additionally, Kanda 10 features a unique Atharvan version of the Purusha Sukta (Hymn 2) that meditates on the human body as a divine city (Devapūra) constructed as the living fort of Brahman, while also providing practical spiritual defense mechanisms through elaborate counter-spells (Kṛtyā-Pratiharaṇa) designed to neutralize negativity, sorcery, and bad fortune.
